Talking Therapy for Depression

Living with depression can feel exhausting and isolating. It can affect every part of life, making even the smallest tasks seem overwhelming.

You may find yourself feeling low, numb, hopeless or disconnected from the people and things you once enjoyed. For some people, depression can bring feelings of guilt, worthlessness or self-criticism, while for others it may show up as irritability, difficulty concentrating, changes in sleep or simply feeling “stuck”.

Whatever your experience of depression, you don't have to have everything figured out before coming to counselling. Sometimes you may have a sense of what is contributing to how you feel, while at other times it can be difficult to understand why you're feeling this way.

As an integrative counsellor with a Person-Centred foundation, I offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about what you're going through. I believe that you are the expert on your own life, so rather than telling you what you should do, we can explore your experiences together and at a pace that feels right for you.

Depression is often about more than feeling sad. Difficult life experiences, loss, relationships, stress or experiences from earlier in life can all influence how we feel in the present. In our sessions, we might explore what has been happening in your life, notice patterns that have developed over time, or pay attention to what is happening for you in the here and now.

We can also explore the way depression affects your thoughts, emotions, relationships and physical wellbeing, helping you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and perhaps begin to relate to yourself with more compassion and less criticism.

When you're feeling low, it can sometimes be difficult to even know what you need, let alone put it into words. You don't need to arrive at counselling knowing what to talk about or where to begin. We can start wherever you are and take things from there.

Depression can make it difficult to imagine things feeling different. Counselling won't ask you to “look on the bright side” or pretend that everything is okay. Instead, it can offer a space where all parts of how you're feeling are welcome, including the ones that may be difficult to share with the people around you.

Whether these feelings are relatively new or depression has been part of your life for a long time, you deserve a space where you can feel heard, understood and able to be yourself.

What Clients Say

I’ve had the privilege of having 18 counselling sessions with Alice, and I honestly can’t recommend her highly enough. I connected with Alice from our very first session, she created such a warm, welcoming, and non-judgemental space where I felt completely comfortable opening up.
